Molar mass, dilutions and pH

Core lab calculations: molar mass and stoichiometry from a chemical formula, dilution of a stock solution, and conversion between pH and hydrogen-ion concentration.

These follow the definitions taught in general chemistry — standard atomic weights (IUPAC), the C₁V₁ = C₂V₂ dilution relationship, and the pH = −log₁₀[H⁺] definition — and show the substitution, not just the answer.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the atomic weights come from?

From the standard atomic weights published by IUPAC (2021 table), rounded to four significant figures. For elements with no stable isotope, the mass number of the most stable known isotope is used instead.
